I made a $425 offer on this http://www.ebay.com/itm/251063415804 and the seller
accepted. :-)

Four motors with encoders and five drivers, plus an extreme amount of cable.
Pulled from working equipment so I know the stuff works and I can later build a
4th axis. All for less than ONE antique driver board for the old setup. Extra
nice is I can actually get datasheets on these components, unlike stuff that
predates the WWW.

It all runs on 115 volts AC so I can also give the big power supply and the
smaller DC power supplies an eviction notice from the big box.

I came to the conclusion that any further mucking about with any of the old
bits was simply going to cost way too much money. Going to start removing the
old parts later today and putting them on eBay at starting prices folks like me
who've acquired an old mill that needs a piece or two can afford.

Cost so far.
$800.00 in traded labor for the mill.
$199.99 for a motor simply because it matched the other one on the table and
was a super bargain compared to all other sources
$464.95 for the non-vintage motors and drives

$1464.94 total so far but only $664.94 cash minus whatever I get out of the old
parts. I already have a mini tower PC which cost me $0.00. I could have less
than $2000 cash into this by the time I'm finished. :-) Looks like my next
biggest expense will be the pieces to interface between the PC and these
drives. The budget is looking like it may have room for something like one of
those Mesa PCI cards.
