I'm in Prestwick, Scotland. DEC were in Ayr, at Mosshill, just outside of the town. The factory manager eventually became a good friend as we shared an interest in amateur radio as well as some business links. They were next to Prestwick Circuits (the former founding Chairman is also still a friend), which made lots of boards for most of the main computer manufacturers of the day, both in UK and abroad. Lots of Apple, IBM, etc boards. IBM a little further away at Spango Valley just outside Greenock but didn't know anyone there. And lots of pc and peripheral manufacturers in Irvine New Town Industrial estate which was a Development Area at that time. Heady days. As for the PDP series: not much wrong with a computer that still does a useful job. I have boxes of old kit here, mainly because there is often some simple but irreplaceable bit of software, long superseded, that runs and does a fine job on the older kit. Must have a clear out one of these days... or not. Marcus > My local Air Cadets group had a tour of the Systime factory in Leeds > where they seemed to be doing everything including IC artwork.
