Given a gantry mill in an XYYZ configuration: Instead of connecting that up as two axes Y and V instead drive Y and (Y+V). Y's limit will be the AND of limit switches on both sides (which must not be at the hard endstops), so that the Y home (first sequence) will drive the entire gantry until both sides are on their stops. Then V home will operate only on the V limit switch and remove the skew. After that you don't drive V.
