Andy, I interpreted the request as simply 'how can I install EMC2'. I
think this person has downloaded the source files when they would have
been better downloading the latest LiveCD version.

So, Mingjun Xie, go to the EMC2 website at www.linuxcnc.org and download
the 'Ubuntu 8.04&EMC2 Live CD ' from the second box down on the left
side and then write this AS AN IMAGE to a CD, put it into your CD drive,
set your computer BIOS to 'boot from CD' and reboot the machine. The
computer will then boot up into Ubuntu Linux from the CD and, under the
'Applications' menu item, you will find EMC2. On the desktop, you will
also find an icon which gives you the option to install the contents of
the CD to your machine as a new operating system - this is entirely
automatic with guidance for selecting options and will not affect your
existing operating system. If you are a novice and specifically want the
very latest version of EMC2 (2.4.1), I would wait until this version is
also available as a liveCD - until then the liveCD version on the
website is good enough for almost all of anyone's needs.

Best wishes

Ian
