Okay, I was thinking you could just ssh into the machine, set your display on the remote machine to your local desktop, and fire up EMC2. You would have to xhost + <your_remote_machine> on the local host prior to doing that. Axis will then display on the desktop you are sitting at. We do that at work alla time with machines that aren't located at our work location.
