The additional I/O card was for, if I remember correctly, general purpose I/O, perhaps home and limit switches, to turn on the coolant pump, signals to the drive (run fwd, run rev) or whatever they are needed for. I think the I/O card was a 7i37. Also, you asked about the Glentek drives. On my mill I had problems with my Glentek drives, a new one was some $800 so I bought an AMC drive instead. The AMC drive worked great and I eventually replaced the other 2 axis with AMC drives.
