It might not be the same all over Europe. This subject may still be
covered by national standards. I've never found one for UK, but I
haven't searched for one. If you don't get any good replies, I know
someone who may have the answer for UK.

Dear European colleagues,
What maximum weight can be suspended from a standard 68 mm electrical
box in Europe? For example:
1. In North America, outlet boxes marked “For Fixture Support” are
intended to support fixtures weighing 50 lbs (23 kg) or less.
2. The Canadian Electrical Code (CEC) 2012 rule 30-302 states that a
ceiling-mounted luminaire weighing 23 kg (50 lbs) or less can be
supported on a ceiling outlet box attached directly to the
building structure.
3. For ceiling fans in North America, the maximum load capacity is
typically 35 lbs (15.6 kg).
Is there a difference between boxes installed on vertical surfaces (on
walls) or horizontal surfaces (ceilings)?
Best regards,
Doug Nix
