Hi All, My latest research project (my engineering life has been a series of these for 60 years now) is an investigation into secondary discharge of ESD. It did not take long to realize what I have seen before in books is not correct, way oversimplified.
I am still gathering data and deriving design advice from it. On some configurations secondary discharge is less of a problem than most engineers think and in others it is more of a problem than engineers realize. The combination of di/dt and the time to form a spark is very important and the resulting advice on design is quite different depending on the physical configuration controlling the interplay of these factors. I may publish this later this year (or next depending on how much time I have), most likely at the EOS/ESD Symposium as not only are they a good match for the subject matter, but also their process for a senior author like myself is much less burdensome than the IEEE increasing the likelihood of publication this year. I will publish the final paper on my website as well.
