Hi James,

You will get a lot of noise already from the scope and probe. You have to use
really good equipment and setup.

Best regards,
Boštjan

I would run the equipment off a known quiet linear power supply to determine if
power supply noise was really the issue.

All the best

Subject: [PSES] Power supply noise

Hi All,

Here is a scenario: there is a noise problem in a system and you suspect the
main DC power supply which operates off the 60 Hz AC mains. So, you take a
scope probe, a trusty 10X Hi-Z one, connect it across the output of the supply
from + to - at the output of the supply, - going to the system ground.

You see 1+ Volt peak-to-peak spikes on the scope at the fundamental switching
frequency of the power supply.

What is the first thing you do?
