Hi, Ralph. For a few days, this list worked like most others, in that the 'Reply to' was to the list and not the writer, which seems logical. But I see it's now 'Reply to writer, CC to list', which means that everyone who replies gets two copies.

I almost agree with you about those UL standards that accept two layers of insulation rated for the higher voltage, except that it doesn't take mechanical damage, resulting in power-cross.  Securing fixes that.

Of course, most of the standards are not based on the 'Hazard-based' principle, yet, and it will take many years for it to penetrate, unless there is some sort of revolution. So we will have to live with these 'seemed like a good idea at the time' requirements.

A quarter-inch doesn't seem big enough to have any effect beyond air insulation.  On the other hand, why is it necessary to separate insulated AC and DC cables, as long as they are identified by colour or shape. Securing is important: cables can jump about under high-current fault conditions, and can become detached from terminals.

    Happy Friday!  Within a control cabinet, AC and DC conductors
    should not be co-mingled.  Is there a specification for minimum
    separation distance?  A minimum separation of 2 inches seems to be
    a standard practice, but is there a specification or standard that
    calls that out?  Thank you.
