Right, from what I’ve read on the lists it probably wouldn’t get far
as an Org-specific feature.  It would be nice to have a link protocol,
capture, etc. in other areas of Emacs, which has been discussed
before.

Yeah, that is a significant limitation.

This seems like the less controversial option.  If I get a chance I’ll
start a discussion on emacs-devel (subject ~ “Doc strings outside of
Emacs”), but if anyone reading this feels inspired, they should go
ahead.
