Looking at this again: The fact that org-html-table-default-attributes will be disregarded in HTML5 export is documented in the variable docstring. The docstring doesn't give a reason, but I don't think it needs to; documenting the behavior is enough. However, the fact that it will be disregarded in HTML5 export is not documented in the manual at [[info:org#Tables in HTML export]]. Perhaps it ought to be. Regards, Christian
