In this case there's only *one* comma, which serves to escape the asterisk, as I see it. You can get the same effect if you run `org-toggle-comment` twice on the same region. (It would be nice if the region did not have to disappear after the first invocation.) The issue I was raising is putting commas before each line in the block.
