I tried that... but it gives me a fixed amount of "=" signs  // compared to
the separator

Maybe the content of the variable org-agenda-compact-blocks could have an
additional value: ( nil | t | nonewline )
or a separate variable org-agenda-compact-blocks-newline ( t | nil )

Could that be an option?
