I have modified the migrate functionality to do just a backup, i.e. disabled the part where in-memory objects and indices are updated to point at the target store.
In the current version, all MIGRATE functions/methods are renamed to BACKUP and take a :MIGRATE key argument so they can decide whether to update the current objects. If someone has a better proposal I'd be happy to hear about it. If not I'll send a patch with the current changes.
