LispNYC is a mentoring organization for Google's Summer of Code 2008, and it 
accepts project ideas and mentors.

so it might be a good opportunity to actually implement that native lisp 
backend ideas, if somebody agrees to be a mentor (and, of course, if someone 
agrees to be a student, and Google or whoever funds this..)

actually some similar project idea was already submitted:
 * Storage engine for various databases. The Idea would be to produce a lib 
that is incorporated into other projects. to handle efficient storage on 
disk of data.

it might be better to start this with something concrete, i.e. elephant :)
