I found that my K1 was very sensitive to having good electrical contact. I had trouble with paddles that didn't have the bearings bypassed. The same paddles worked fine with my K2. I think this issue would be more likely with ball bearing paddles. I was using Kent twin lever paddles. They were not bypassed like their single lever model was. It used a small piece of braid to go from ground to the bearing spindle.
