Gary, For those of us here in the USA, the THP HL700 is not approved for sale by the FCC. If anyone wants to purchase one of them, one would need to do so directly from THP in Japan.
The 450B is approved for sale by the FCC, and it provides an absolute maximum of 400w output. Your requirement of running on DC power narrows the field greatly. If that were not part of the requirement, the best amp for portable or DXpedition operation is the THP HL-1.1KFX which has a switch mode power supply that can run on any voltage from 100 to 260v AC 50/60 Hz. Regardless of your power supply voltage, the amp will safely provide at least 500w output. It also weighs only 22 lbs (10 kg) so it is quite "portable". 73, Bob Naumann W5OV Array Solutions USA THP Dealer and Warranty Service -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of [email protected] Sent: Wednesday, January 27, 2010 7:06 AM To: Elecraft Subject: [Elecraft] K3 and HF amplifier Hi, Well thank you for the many emails getting me on the Elecraft web site without frames. Job is done now. As I am portable, my requirement is for a solid state amp 400-800w PEP. I can use a mix of Generator and mains power and a 13.8vdc option as well floating on a charging system. I would like to consult the collective wisdom to obtain the following information: Make and model Output Input required for maximum output although I wish to run up to 400-500w only Technical reason to choose one model over all others. Quality and IMD ATU on-board is NOT required I have read many reviews on eHam but I am not at all sure that they give an accurate view of quality etc. Please reply OFF LIST as I do NOT want to start another OT thread and annoy those not interested in this topic. I will have 2 x K3's and would hope the amp will be at least casual contest rated. I have read the specs on; Ameritron ALS-600S THP HL-450B THP HL-700 I have discounted; SPE SGC ALS-500 All tube amps because of Generator power and no 14vdc availability etc All comments appreciated. Apologies to those not interested in my request. 73's Gary Sent via BlackBerryR from Telstra ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
