Dear Howard,we don't know who you are,weather you are a ham with a legal call
sign or a CB'er is not my business at all but I will respect your comments,I
think you deserve that but also I think I will not let it pass this time.
That a K3 is still a work in progress,we all know that since the begining,you
have said nothing that we didn't know.
My K3 came alrdady factory assembled as you said you wanted them,right?
Well let me tell you this first,with all respect to ARRL lab,I advice you to
read and analyze a real lab report as the one done by SHERWOOD LABs where you
will see that Flex is not as you think the best performance radio at all,it not
even get close to the K3,only radio that comes close is the Tentec Orion II.
Elecraft has solved all the problems with the transmitter they had before,all
the K3 going out today have a very clean TX,it seems that you are not updated
lately.
I have owned in the past 18 years more than 500 radios,probably all the ones
made by the 3 main japaneese brands and also by TT below four grands of
cost.And comparing receiver and transmitter performance with all I had owned in
the past,the K3 is beyond comparison.
Its the best performance radio I have owned ever.I outperform ANYTHING out
there on the market.
As I typed before,I truly respect your opinion but you have to read way more
about K3's to know exactly how good they are.
Ok,lets see what you said don't make sense,what do you do with a dual bander
radio with its 50W,JUST FM,right? what will you do with the internal board for
2M at the K3? ALL MODES INCLUDING DIGITAL ONES !! right? how many roofing
filters,audio equalizers,DSP,etc that great radio you said you would buy
instead will have? NONE !!! right? that is why some people decided to purchase
the new board,why its only 10W? have you seen a K3 inside? I guess not,there is
very limited space for a big 50W PA in that board,simply its very easy to buy
an external 10W in 100W out amp for the K3 but then you will have a fully
loaded ALL MODE 2M radio,that answer your question,I hope.Its in my opinion a
little overpriced,truth but still is a good investment because if you try to
find today a multimode 2M radio will cost you much more than what you payed for
this new board and besides it will be another box sitting in your desk.
"Maybe I should wait for 2 years of no further hardware modifications" In your
dreams only,Elecraft will keep modifying this K3 not only in firmware but also
in hardware,why? because SIR,they do listen to all of us,the USERS who tell
them what we want and they listen carefully and most of the mods done has been
done becuase of skilled operators who has said what they will like to have
done,tell me one thing? How many times have you seen a japaneesee company
changing anything in their radios because users will like to have it ??? NONE
!!! they don't listen to customers/users,ELECRAFT DOES!!! That is called
EXCELLENT CUSTOMERS SERVICE !!! SIR.
