I have to try to get on this net, since I have been unable to make any ssb contacts with the K2. I did have a qso with someone I know from AM operation, he was running a weekend ssb net, and I jumped in at the end, with the qrp K2. I also did answer a CQ I heard on 80 meters, and had a short qso with someone running something vintage I think, both reports on my audio were good, but I would like a critical report.
I listen around and everyone seems to be in a group. I call CQ for long times with no response. I have heard people ignore requests for help with their radios, one guy asked if a small group of guys could help him figure out what mic would work best with his KWM2, they said signals were not strong enough and then ignored him completely...rude! I like and prefer to talk to people I don't know, or have not worked in a while, but it seems most ssb operation is the usual groups on the same frequency, all the time. Its easy on AM, there are small windows (mostly) where people listen, people jumping in are welcome in most groups, except maybe some on 80 meters at night, a CQ or just a tune up of the transmitter gets a response in many cases. You can then have a nice long qso about vintage gear, homebrew, antenna's, technical stuff, motorcycles, old cars, sdr radios, almost anything. Other people may jump in, original guys leave, and the thing just rolls along sometimes. I don't ever hear this on ssb. I do hear nets where people jump in and out, which is not quite the same thing. I suspect many hams don't know what fun they are missing out on... Anyway, I will try to remember to get on the Elecraft net next time and get a report on the K2-100. And also hear other K2's and K3's! I was an hour and a half late for the last one and heard nothing.... I did hear the flex radio net close buy, they were loud..
