For those that have installed the KRX3, which option did you choose for the
receive antenna, BNC or ATU? How do you intend to operate with the second
receiver that guided you to this choice?
I do two things with the KRX3. One is to listen to a dx station in one ear and the
pileup in the other, in order to more easily find the guy the dx is working so I can
call on that frequency. For this purpose, I want the KRX3 to share the main antenna.
The other is to use diversity reception. I have laid about 200 feet of wire on the
ground to make a low-noise rx antenna, and I also have a vertical which I can use as
a receiving antenna. When operating diversity I want the KRX3 to use one of these
antennas.
I chose BNC. I connect the diversity antennas to the BNC jack (I have a switch to
select one of them). The latest firmware allows you to choose either MAIN or AUX for
the KRX3 antenna in normal and diversity mode, so this gives me what I want
automatically.
All the above could have been done with the ATU setting (and connecting the KRX3's
auxiliary input to the KAT3). Then I would have connected my receiving antennas to
the Antenna 2 connector on the KAT3. But by using the BNC connector, I free up
Antenna 2 for a second transmitting antenna!
