I've been wondering the same thing. In Sept. I ordered the kit version to save money. I figured it was worth my while to spend 8 hours and save $200. At this point, however, I've become rather busy with a silly photography hobby / business so time is a premium for me. I'm toying with changing the order to factory assembled.
I don't think there is any delivery advantage in kit vs. factory assembled. Remember that all of the prior Elecraft stuff has been kit. Most of us enjoy building. If we didn't we probably wouldn't have bought an Elecraft. So with a client base that enjoys building, it is only natural that many of the rigs sold would be kits. BTW, congrats on the K3 order. - Keith N1AS - - K2 5411.ssb.100 - - K3 Wave 3 - -----Original Message----- I ordered a K3 (assembled unit) last week, and signed onto the reflector. Since then, I've noticed that the vast majority of units being delivered are in kit form. Why is that? To save a couple hundred bucks? Because people enjoy building their radios? Or is there some delivery time advantage for those folks who order kits?
