Quite right. I have a 9 year old Dell running Windows 98 which still runs 12 hours a day receiving and decoding APT weather satellite images and uploading them to my website. I don't give a damn about the security holes or that Microsoft no longer supports it - it's the other side of a firewall and I don't use it for web surfing anyway. I could do 100% of what I need for radio, and most of everything else, under Windows 98. (Being in the software and support biz I need to be familiar with XP and Vista but there is little I actually use the computer for that really needs XP, and I loathe Vista.) A computer mag here has just written about how much power people could save using the power management settings of their PC. I think we could save far more if we weren't forced to use ever more bloated software demanding ever more powerful PCs (and then we'd save ourselves the problem of how to dispose of those perfectly functional but out of date computers without contributing to another environmental disaster.) -- Julian, G4ILO K2 s/n: 392 K3 s/n: ???
