John,

480 ma is just about double the normal receive current. You do have something wrong there.

You will just have to hunt for it, but remember that most everything in the K2 runs cool to only slightly warm during receive - you may be able to find out what is getting hot by examining for 'hot spots' with your fingers. If you do find a hot area, we can help you localize the problem.

One place to start is to find out whether the 8T and 8R voltage rails are behaving - check the collectors of Control Board Q1 (8T) and Q2 (8R). The 8T voltage rail should be zero during receive and the 8R rail should be at 8 volts (+/- 10%).

My K2 5312 has some audio fluctuation. It tends to seem a little soft on audio then normalizes after a few minutes. On receive, current is 0.48 which I read as 480mA. I think this is too high. Am I correct? Also, the LCD does not light up as an S-meter but does light up during transmission.

I am able to use the K2 and have many QSOs in this condition. The transmitter seems not to be affected.

Do I really have a problem?

I will first re=do the S-meter calibration tonight but just wanted to get pointed in the right direction.

Thanks!
