Another, probably less messy, approach is a few drops of DeOxit into the pot either along the shaft (that's the usual ingress) or, if there's any gaps around the electrical contacts or case in back, in there. DeOxit comes in a small squeeze bottle with a very fine metal tube applicator.
I know that good cleaners are supposed to be benign, but it offends my sensibilities to blast a part with a fluid, Hi! When all I have is a spray I usually spray a small screwdriver shaft (with a paper towel behind it to absorb the over-spray) and then let the liquid drip off of the end of the screwdriver into the part I want 'treated'. That way the paper towel gets the excess instead of the circuit board. If I pressed it inwards while slightly rotating it, it was OK. I remember reading in the archives that it probably needed replacement, but thought that I had nothing to lose by spraying it with contact spray. The spray solved the problem and has done so for probably a couple of years and at least 1500 QSOs. If you want to try this then the front panel needs to be removed to access the pot. 73 Sverre LA3ZA http://www.qslnet.de/la3za/ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: Elecraft@mailman.qth.net You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
