My entire home theater is in a 19" rack and many of the pieces (DVD player,
VHS player, cable box) are not necessarily designed for rack-mounting. In
those cases the equipment sits on a shelf and a couple tabs in the back keep
it from sliding back when you press buttons. The front panel has a hole the
size of the front of the equipment, which is mounted flush with the panel.
My solution came from www.middleatlantic.com but I know that might be too
store-bought for most hams. :-) I'm sure you could jury-rig a more
home-brew-looking solution from scraps of aluminum or a boat-anchor chasis
you find lying around the shack.

Of course you're going to have some blank spaces in that rack, and what
better way to fill them than with equipment from Funk Logic
(www.funklogic.com). Unfortunately, some of their really cool stuff has been
discontinued since I last visited the site, but you can look at it to get
the idea:

* DD-301 Digilog Dynamicator http://www.funklogic.com/dd301.htm with
multi-rotational knobs to control the comporator, tuberator, and
vintagerator.

* AP-301 Algorhythmic Prosecutor http://www.funklogic.com/ap302.htm to
control the funkerator, imaginator, and punch.

* Valvecaster 1960 Dual Valve Teleknobic Preampulator
http://www.funklogic.com/valvecaster1960.htm

Fortunately, the Palindrometer is still available
(www.funklogic.com/palindrometer.htm)

And if you want a component that actually does something, there's the
Mastererizer, which is an audio processor.

Subject: [Elecraft] K2 in 19inch Rack?

Has anyone attempted mounting a K2 into a 19 inch rack case either
with or without the case? Its something i am contemplating doing.
This might be a kit suggestion idea for Elecraft. A new front
panel design that will mount in a 19 inch rack case. It certainly
could enhance the ergonomics of the K2 and breath some more life
into the K2 as a fixed station radio.
