In addition to the smaller Astrons, Ten Tec makes a small 11-amp supply: the model 937. It's about the same "footprint" as the K2 but about half as high as a K2. Remember, you're looking at ICAS or "intermittent" duty ratings, not continuous duty, unless you are planning to put a 15 watt unkeyed carrier on the air and leave it there permanently (or until FCC and your fellow Hams storm your front door).
WARNING, WARNING, WARNING Will Robinson! (Remember "Lost in Space" or have I dated myself yet again?) Do NOT put your K2 on top of or next to a power supply, especially a "linear" power supply. The magnetic field around the power transformer will invoke various gremlins in the K2. The K2 has been "hardened" against most of these gremlins, but it's not absolutely problem-proof. The magnetic field from the power transformer flopping about at 60 Hz gets into the toroids and can cause various things from frequency warble on the signal to hum on the carrier. Recommend keeping a small supply at least 6 to 12 inches away from your K2. After discovering that my supply went on a stool under the operating desk, freeing up space on the desk and keeping it a couple of feet from the rig. Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- Santa is loading up his sleigh with a K2! Any recommendations on a 5A power supply that won't dwarf this and behave electrically? I've got a 20A Astron that powers my current rig that I'd like to move to the lab. 73 jim ab3cv _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
