Wayne,
    Before I retired I was a teacher of mostly 6th and 7th graders. We made 
telegraphs from scrap wood, pieces of a metal can, wire and a 6 volt dry cell. 
This started their interest in electronics. Some kids would have problems with 
spelling and I would have them send the word in Morse code and focus on the 
individual letters. Needless to say they aced the tests. We went on to wiring 
up old telephones and to radio and I brought in an HT to demonstrate some
