The K3S we posted yesterday has been sold. (The K3/P3 combination we listed separately is still available.) This was one of a number of items donated to our ARES/ACS group that we are selling to raise money for the organization.
You portably saw the posting by Clay Autery, KY5G, this morning, advising caution regarding this item. I was going to reply to Clay off-list, but I thought others might be interested in "the rest of the story." Clay's warning was fair -- doing business on the internet is a scary proposition for buyers as well as sellers. I hope we didn't leave money on the table, as Clay suggested. I'm a happy K3 owner myself. (I bought mine used.) We've seen similarly loaded radios listed in the $3k - $4k range, but we don't know what they actually sold for. We have also seen a number of nice K3s, some with P3 included, for under $2,500. The K3S that was donated to us had two prior owners, and had been repaired at the factory at least once. When we tested the radio, the receiver intermittently cut out. I found the problem (a botched repair) and fixed it. For the record, evidence indicates that the botched repair was NOT done by the factory. I then gave the radio a thorough workout and was convinced that it was in good working order. (We intended to disclose this to the eventual buyer.) Nevertheless, because of its history and since we were selling the radio essentially "as-is", we deliberately set the price on the low side. As it turns out, a ham who is well-known to us and well-respected here in the DC/Baltimore area bought the radio. We were happy to have a buyer we could trust, and who trusted us. Because he is known to us, in the unlikely event that he has a problem with the radio, we'll help him to resolve it. That's something we might not have been able to do for a stranger. Personally, I have little experience as an internet seller. We have been approached by our share of scammers -- luckily, we haven't been burned yet. But we have also had some very pleasant interactions with a number of hams around the country. We are proud to be part of the ham community.
