Something for you to add that no one has mentioned. From the K3S manual, page
63; the PWR SET configuration has a feature that allows you to lock the MIC,
CMP and PWR controls. You might want to use it just before turning folks loose.
It really pays to read the manual and learn all the safety features in the K3
family.

Also, I’m not sure why you would want to lock the VFO in FD. Ops _will_ need to
tune around at times, even if they are running. The run eventually ends,
possibly due to frequency crowding. At this point in the solar cycle (beginning
the downward slope), you may get competition from EU or AS stations operating
in their contests.

I participated with the WVARA folks (K6EI - we hold almost all of the QRP
records for FD above 7 stations) for at least 10 years, bringing my K3, then it
and the K3S when I acquired that radio. I was either the 15m or 20m band
captain for SSB during that time. I never had anyone mess with the controls
other than the big knob for tuning. At the same time, these folks learned a lot
about contesting, and I had a lot of fun mentoring new contesters, and made
many new friends.

By the way, why SSB? The CW guys had a very good handle on the bands for CW,
and we needed someone for SSB, so I volunteered…

Jack, W6FB
I’ll be at home, in Louisiana (LA, NOT LAX) this FD.
