You will need some kind of mic switch. If you simply parallel
the sound card output and mic, the "hot mic" will pick up sounds
in the shack while operating digital modes.
Start with modifications documented by W3PFR for a mic switch
box (or use a relay driven from the computer PTT):

and a fixed level audio output:

These two modifications will make digital operation with your K2
much more comfortable.
