Hi Everyone,
I am Daniel, a first time poster to the site.
I just bought a new KAT500 factory build.
When I first connected the KAT to my system
using the instructions give to me by Rob at Elecraft
the KAT goes into Bypass upon power-up. What is
wrong?
When you press the MODE button on the left, does it cycle through AUTO/MAN/BYP?

If you leave it on AUTO or MAN and power-cycle the unit, does it power up in the same mode?

BTW, you should almost always use the KAT500 in the MAN mode because AUTO initiates a tuning sequence every time it detects RF.

First you should "train" the KAT by stepping through all the bands of interest at the Elecraft-recommended frequency intervals and giving it 10-20 watts of RF, so it will remember the settings, and automatically energize the relays accordingly, so the antenna is tuned immediately for every QSY.

I train my KAT in the MAN mode, then tapping the TUNE button each time I transmit the 10-20 watts, but you can use the AUTO mode for training if you wish.
