It uses a RS-232 transceiver (MAX3232 or similar ADM3202ANZ which is significantly cheaper) https://github.com/n1kdo/KPA500-remote hardware design here: https://github.com/n1kdo/pico-w-dual-serial The code understands most/all KPA500 commands (as well as KAT500.)
