Larry,
You will not be able to remove the Front Panel just by removing the 4
screws.
Ignore those You-Tube videos - they are both inadequate.
Take the top cover off and peer between the Front Panel and the Control
Board - you should see two standoffs (one near the left and the other
near the right - each about 1 1/2 inches from each end).
Remove the screws that hold the Control Board to those standoffs.
If you have the KDSP2 or KAF2 options installed, you must remove it -
there will be a standoff to hold that option board apart from the
Control Board. If the KDSP2, you must remove the upper board to get to
the screw holding that option to its standoff (use good anti-static
measures when removing and storing the upper KDSP2 board).
Now remove the screw (or standoff) from the control board.
After that you may remove the 4 screws holding the Front Panel to the
rest of the K2 and pull the front panel assemble away from the K2.
It takes longer to write/read this than to do it - it is not difficult.
I used to do it in a minute or two.
Reverse the steps to put the front panel back on and secure it to the
Control Board the CB should not 'flop' inside the K2.
The serial number does not matter - for this procedure they are all the
same.
The mic configuration header plugging can be found in the KSB2 instructions.

Hi everyone
I need to look at the microphone settings in my K2.
After reading the manual, it states to pull the 4 screws holding the front
panel.
When I look at YouTube videos, I see two methods. One person pulls the 4
screws and the front panel seems to pull off with some ease plus the board
attached and all knobs and VFO knob in place. The other person pulls the 4
screws and then pulls all of the knobs off, VFO knob and the nuts holding
them and pulls the front panel from the board behind it.
Does it matter what the serial number of the K2 is for the procedure? I
need some info before I attempt this minor project.
Thanks.
