With a K4D diversity operation is easier than it was with the K3, as you can swap the auxiliary antenna between the main RX and 2nd RX with the press of a button (no cable swapping in the case).
For many years I have used a simple active antenna alongside my main antennas. By using a horizontal main antenna and a vertically polarised active antenna, you can benefit from polarity diversity. This works well on the lower bands. Protection for both the active antenna and the receiver can be done by turning off the dc supply to the active antenna while transmitting. A single transistor switch connected to the linear keying phono socket is all you need.
