When I had my radio set up about 20 feet from the kitchen, I used a foot switch
so my replies to my wife didn’t go out over the air. When I moved to New
Hampshire and my shack moved into an isolated room, I started using VOX, which
works very well on my K3.

VOX definitely eliminates one piece of clutter, but I don’t know how well is
will work with the ambient noise from wind etc. in a POTA/SOTA environment.
