Terry - I'm sure your K2 Kit will arrive soon. Elecraft seems to get them right out, when ordered.
I just finished K2 # 5422, about 2 weeks ago. Since then I have been "aligning" and tweaking the various optimization adjustments since. Surprisingly, except for a couple of "breakage" goofs on my part - it went together as their Manual said! A good set of builder tools is essential: a anti-static pad, and wrist strap is important. Good Kester solder is a must - I used .020 SN63PB37 #58/285, 24-6337-9700 J-STD-006 A solder. It is one of Kester's more "mil std" solders, and it has a little less resin/rosin to mess up your completed circuit boards. A flush-cutter type of dikes cutoff tool, is the other MUST. And lastly, a "soldersucker" tool. I think all toll, including a "soldering station" I bought from Circuit Specialists - I have less than $50 in new tools. Oh yes, I did also buy a decent $26 digital volt/ohmeter/C/L meter too. The only problems I had, was one I think two (2) items I soldered in wrong, when I had worked too long and gotten tired and careless - which took a bit of re-work to get new replacement parts back in. I broke one part (diode), and I misplaced one diode. My worst mistake was soldering in the RF Board's large L-connector on the wrong side of the RF board. And I soldered in one whole 16-pin IC device - not noticing I had bent one of the pins over flat - when I pushed it in for installation. De-soldering and redoing the connector, and IC - where tricky - solder sucker was a lifesaver! As I finished the K2 #5422 tests, all along the way - I think every one of them came out exactly in the test ranges the manual said I should find. I used Spectrogram 5.7 free-ware, as a final filters alignment tool (PC sound board) Good luck, I may build another - it came out so well 73's Fred, N3CSY upstate NY __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
