Dave,

That is one failure mode of the headphone jack in the K2. There is a little switch in the rear of the headphone jack that turns the speaker on and off. The plastic operating arm for the switch has broken (inside the jack).

The only way to fix it is to replace the headphone jack.
You can find instructions for doing that at https://www.qsl.net/wy3a/Replace_K2_Headphone_Jack.htm

The headphone jack is Elecraft p/n E620028. Either call sales at 831-763-4211 to order and pay for it or email [email protected] to obtain the price and order on-line using the Quick Order form.

I have a K2 built by another ham and am getting used to it.  I I recently

this radio is supposed to operate or is there a wiring error somewhere?  I have
looked through the K2 manual and find nothing about the headphone jack except
that it is for plugging in the headphones.
Thank you.
