I showed my KX1 with the KXB3080 installed to a new Ham yesterday. His first
question was "how far?" Of course I said world wide when the bands are open.
He politely didn't argue with me.

Thanks for the report! I'll have to share your note with him <G>.

While nursing my morning coffee, tuning 40m before going to work, I heard my
friend Dale, WB8WOJ working Drew, VK3XU in Australia, on 7033.

Signals were pretty good, so I figured I'd try when they were finished...
like that was going to happen. Near the end of their qso, of course, on
comes a strong carrier! So much for that plan. Anyway, as the qso ended,
things got quiet again. I waited for the dit dits and after a second or so,
I grabbed my old hand key and gave Drew a call.

To my astonishment Drew answered me! We had a nice little qso... Drew told
me he was using a hb rig at 100w and the temp was 18 deg. I told him I was
using my kx1 running just 2w and the temp was 40 deg in Halifax, and I was
just getting ready for work. I also told him it was a qso that I would
remember for a long time!

It was a nice casual little qso with no qsb or qrm. He was 569 with me and
he sent me a 559!

What a great way to start the day!

I just added the kxb3080, 80m band to my kx1 last week, so it's been sitting
front and center on the shack table ever since, and working real well I
might add.

Everyone have a great weekend and a Happy Easter.
