About 1:30am morning I was monitoring 3.720mhz while programing. When the audio just faded out then back in then it quit. When I moved over to see what the problem was. A frequency was displayed but all the controls where unresponsive. I turned it off . Then back on. The display worked normal as usual, but again no response by any control except the power out control. Frustrated! I turned my K2 off finished the programming chore and went to bed. When I woke this morning. AFTER my coffee. I turned it on again. The situation had not changed. My K2 was DEAD. A frequency was displayed but all the controls were unresponsive. Time to break out the manual and see if I could locate the problem. As I unplugged the straight key I had set up last night for working "SKCC members" my K2 came back to life..... I plugged the key back in and the K2 was still working. What is this? When moving the key's cable the audio would cut in and out. Apparently the cable that had been wrapped around the key while it was in storage (a long time) developed a short in either the cable itself or the 1/8" stereo plug and as the cable relaxed into its normal condition it "flexed" a short into the keying circuit causing those symptoms. Sort of made me feel real intelligent.
