Stan,

Try a test - put a bare stereo plug into the adapter and check with your ohmmeter to see if there is continuity between the ring and the shell of the plug. If so, that is the reason - the adapter is using a mono jack and the CM500 has a stereo plug. The tip and ring of the CM500 mic plug are connected together, so when plugged into a mono jack, the audio is shorted to the shell.

Does anyone have any ideas why my Yamaha CM-500 microphone won't work when
plugged into the front of the K3. I am using the Kenwood AD1K adapter and I
have the firmware set to select the front panel, low gain, with bias on
(FP.L bIAS). The CM-500 headphones are plugged into the Phones jack on the
front of the K3 and work fine. The CM-500 mic plug (grey) is plugged into
the corresponding jack on the AD1K. When I press my footswitch, the K3
goes into transmit but there is no audio when I speak into the CM-500's
microphone. I have tried the footswitch plugged in both on the back of the
K3 and into the AD1K footswitch jack and it works fine (puts the K3 into
transit) in both cases.

When plugged into the rear Phone and Mic jacks on the K3, the CM-500 works
like it should. In that case I have the firmware set to RP.L bIAS.and both
the CM-500 microphone and headphones work fine, so I'm quite sure the CM-500
is not the culprit.
