I would start Console (in the Utilities folder), choose "All Messages", then start the KX3 Utility and see what is logged.
For example, I just ran it connected to a serial device that does not have a KX3 connected and saw a number of these: 5/23/13 8:19:25.000 AM kernel: ttyioss12000001: enqueueData rtn (e00002d8) 5/23/13 8:19:26.000 AM kernel: ttyioss12000001: enqueueData rtn (e00002d8) 5/23/13 8:19:26.000 AM kernel: ttyioss12000001: enqueueData rtn (e00002d8) Not very helpful to me, but it might help Elecraft debug it.
