The KPA500 requires its own distinct COM port connection, directly from your PC to the KPA500 back panel RS-232 PC connection (the 9-pin D shell).
There's no RS-232 pass-thru from the K3 thru the KAT500 to the KPA500. That cable is the 15-pin ACC cable, and does not carry RS-232 data. We do this for the P3/K3 combination, because the P3 needs to send serial port commands to the K3, but that's the extent of the K-line's serial port pass-thru.
