Geoff, I believe the key to your question is found in the menu explanation for the TXGN menu entry. From that description, I conclude that the "magic" is in having the power setting at 5, 50 or 1.0 mW. The gain constant is only updated when Tune function is activated and one of those 3 power levels is set. At other power levels, the gain constant is not updated.
