A very good indication of an overdriven amplifier or otherwise distorted signal is when you see energy on the wrong side of the (suppressed) carrier of an SSB signal, as well as the expected sideband energy. This is obvious on the P3, and has a completely different appearance than a signal that has an intentionally wide transmitted audio bandwidth, but is otherwise "clean".
