The comments made about a very strong signal pumping the AGC if it's inside the crystal filter band pass are quite true. That can be important for dedicated contesters or those who enjoy diving into a DX pileup.
I am not a contester and all the DX I work is "casual" (no pileups). I make it a practice to never get within 200 or 300 Hz of another station, so a 400 Hz filter is perfect for me for "tight" work and I use the 2.8 kHz "SSB" filter much of the time. In general I prefer a CW bandwidth of >1 KHz when QRM permits. So it all comes down to your preferences and what you enjoy doing. The K3 is very flexible and can be "molded' to fit your style and interests. 73, Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- Hi Robert, I just bought the K3 in December and I also work mostly CW. I also work mostly QRP anymore so, I have the 400 and 200Hz roofing filters. They work super for me!
