Same here, and I almost never use slow AGC for anything. I mistakenly started the NAQP this weekend with AGC set to slow, but I quickly realized the problem when the gain wasn't recovering fast enough to catch the reports of weaker callers ... especially if the AGC had just been hit hard by QRM or a strong late caller. Fast AGC worked just fine.
