IMO, a better illustration of the tuning flexibility for the various Elecraft tuners is gained by computing all possible legal *combinations* of the relays that are used to switch the reactances. Almost all of the resulting component configurations make sense, with only the relay(s) connecting a capacitor group being superfluous if all the inductors are shorted or if all the capacitors in the group are open. So minus these very few cases, the different combinations are obtained by raising 2 to the power of the number of switching relays. Results: ATU Switching Relays Possible Tuning Combinations KXAT1 7 128 KAT1 10 1028 T1 15 32768 KAT2 16 65536 KAT3 17 131072 KXAT3 (Said to be the same as the KAT3) There's a lot of difference between the lower and upper tiers!
