Absolutely! I, too, had a difficult time finding a spot in the filter alignment where my voice sounded decent, but switching to the wider filter cured that immediately.
I guess there was a good reason why SSB filters tend to be 2.6 or 2.7 kHz wide. OTOH, using a narrower filter squeezes a little more RF power into a little less bandwidth, which helps the signal/noise ratio under marginal conditions. I installed the parts for 2.7 kHz. Didn't do any comparisons with 2.6 kHz. It sounds very restricted and fine tuning the BFO setting is quite critical and tx audio ends up either too bassy or too toppy. I'm thinking of fitting the wider ssb filter mod kit . That's the replacement xtals and changed caps. Has anyone done this ? If so - are you glad that you did or do you wish you had never tried ? Has anyone compared the 2.4khz with the 2.6khz settings and if so any comments ? Which do you prefer ? I should mention that I tend to like a wider filter - I was spoiled by the lovely audio from my old Atlas 215 (vintage 1970) TIA 73, Vic GW4JUN ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
