Hi John, The K1 has very low current drain (on the order of 50 mA on receive), which may allow you to use a small battery pack. The KBT1 internal battery is good for something like 7 watts output.
There's also an internal ATU option (KAT1), which has decent range, so you can leave your coax at home and just toss a wire into a tree.
